Personal data protection
The following information concerns the protection of your personal data. These are data that allow you to be identified either directly or indirectly: your forename, family name, email address and IP address.
If you are the owner of one or more equidae, under the law they must be registered in the Belgian database of equidae, managed by the non-profit organisation Confédération belge du cheval ASBL (UE 2015/262).
Personal data are collected and recorded when:
- you browse the pages of the Confédération belge du cheval (CBC) and the HorseID extranet. In your browser, these pages begin with ‘https://www.cbc-bcp.be’ and ‘https://www.horseid.be’.
When you access another portal, another web site, an online application or a social network via this link, the conditions governing the processing of personal data for these services are applicable. - you contact us.
Your data are protected in compliance with:
European Regulation 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 (which came into force on 25 May 2018) on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data (GDPR).
1. LEGAL BASIS AND PURPOSE OF PROCESSING
23 May 2001 - Royal Decree concerning the creation of the federal public service for Public Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment.
16 February 2016 - Royal Decree concerning the identification and recording of equidae in a central database.
We collect and process personal data in order to:
- keep you informed (automatic sending of the electronic information bulletin)
- respond to your questions
- identify your equidae:
In accordance with article 27 of the Royal Decree of 16 June 2005 concerning the identification and recording of horses in a central database, management of the central database for the identification of horses is entrusted to the non-profit organisation (asbl) Confédération belge du cheval. - process dossiers that concern you
We also collect and process data anonymously:
- for statistical and quality purposes in order to improve our services
- to respond in your language
2. DATA PROCESSED
Personal data are collected and processed automatically in the situations described in the following table.

Non-personal data are also collected automatically without a link to your IP address, thereby respecting your privacy. These data are used for statistical purposes and to improve the content of the portal:
- choice of language;
- search engine used;
- keywords used;
- site through which you arrived;
- pages consulted;
- duration of consultation per page;
- list of files downloaded;
- access date and time;
- browser used;
- platform and/or operating system installed on your computer.

4. RETENTION PERIOD
Retention period:
- for your IP address - 12 months;
- for cookies it varies depending on the type of cookie (maximum 2 years);
- for data, a maximum of 2 years and 6 months following the death of an equid.
- In exceptional cases, such as legal proceedings, your personal data may be retained for a longer period.
5. SECURITY
The Confédération belge du cheval (CBC) guarantees the security (integrity and confidentiality) of your personal data. Data security includes protection against unauthorised access, illegal use, loss and unauthorised modification.
We use security techniques and procedures which are not described here for reasons of security.
Appropriate physical, technical and organisational measures are taken to ensure a level of security proportional to the risks.
6. RIGHT OF CONSULTATION, RECTIFICATION, OBJECTION AND DELETION
You have the following rights concerning the personal data that we use: the right of consultation, the right of rectification, the right of objection and the right of deletion.
6.1. HorseID
You can modify your personal data via the application. Your request for modification will be reviewed and processed within 24 hours. It is also possible to send your modification requests by email to info@horseid.be.
6.2. Data Protection Officer (DPO)
In accordance with the GDPR, contact the Data Protection Officer (DPO) to exercise your right of consultation.
Your request will be processed within 30 calendar days. If it is complex or if our services are faced with a large number of requests, this period will be extended to 60 days.

7. COMPLAINTS
If you believe that the Confédération belge du cheval (CBC) has not processed your personal data in accordance with the regulations in force, you can lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Authority:
